So, Sony is planning on producing their next gaming console with streaming abilities. This will allow gamers to play regular Playstation games as well as stream games directly through their console.

Citing sources “familiar with the company”, the Wall Street Journal reported that the technology will debut this week at a New York event along with the firm’s fourth console, rumoured to be called the Sony Playstation 4.

Now, surely this is something Sony should have been thinking about years ago wither through new research and development in their own labs or via acquisition. Rumour has it, they plan on using the streaming technology from Gaikai, a Japanese cloud based gaming service they bought for $380 million dollars. If this is the case, then they’d better get a move on. I can predict a whole host of different tech manufacturers coming out with something similar and probably with a lot more innovation.

The sales of consoles have dropped dramatically since more and more people are downloading games onto their tablets and smart phones. Sony really need to be a bit more proactive instead of reactive and actually produce something in conjunction with their smart phones.

I’ll be honest, I really can’t see much of a future for a streaming console when manufacturers are now integrating apps, smart phones and smart TV‘s as the next generation of entertainment device. This idea from Sony is probably a year too late if you ask me.

I set up Hot Deals Monster because I was frustrated with the lack of deals specifically targeted to Men. I wasn't interested in cheap nappies or 10p off my next box of cornflakes. I wanted real, interesting deals that would genuinely help and save money for the male consumer.
