Microsoft CFO Hints A Surface Mini Tablet Is A Possibility

Microsoft don’t want to be left out of the rumour mill and so their CFO has hinted that there a small possibility that they could make a smaller more compact version of the Surface RT tablet. The 7 inch range of tablets in particularly have actually been flying off the shelf and many tablet manufacturers are seeing this as the major battle ground when it comes to competitively priced tablets. For example, Apple is doing well with their Apple iPad Mini and the Google Nexus 7 is probably one of the most popular tablets in the 7 inch range of tablets.

It’s really unusual for someone from Microsoft to comment on up and coming launches or future models, but the  company’s chief financial officer Peter Klein couldn’t stop talking while speaking at the Goldman Sachs Technology & Internet Conference this week.

Klein said: “The notion of flexibility and the scalability of the operating system is actually intrinsic to our vision and our strategy.

“We talk a lot about devices and services, and when we say devices and services, we mean a set of experiences that are complete, that are compelling, and that are consistent across a whole range of form factors and devices, including size of form factor. [In Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Phone 8] you have the same core code base driving form factors from 4in all the way up to 27in all-in-ones and everything in-between.

“I think we’re really set up to deliver the most versatile set of experiences across form factors, whether that’s 4in, 5in, 7in, 8in, 10in, 13in – and along with our partners in the ecosystem, we’ll work through that based on underlying demand.”

Microsoft claim its surface tablets are enjoying strong sales. However, reports suggest that poor supply has hampered availability and that they’re struggling against Apple iPads.

This might be one of the reasons why they’re thinking about bringing out a smaller more competitive unit. We’ll have to wait and see.

I set up Hot Deals Monster because I was frustrated with the lack of deals specifically targeted to Men. I wasn't interested in cheap nappies or 10p off my next box of cornflakes. I wanted real, interesting deals that would genuinely help and save money for the male consumer.
