We Ain’t Making No Cheap iPhone! – Apple Chairman Suggests

| February 12, 2013 | Reply

There have been rumours circling round at the moment that Apple needs to come out with a new and unique product to stay ahead of the innovation pool. There have suggestions such as an iWatch or Smartwatch to the latest rumour which is a cheaper iPhone to remain competitive (especially in the lower end of the smart phone market).

Tim Cook, Apple COO, in january 2009, after Ma...

In a speech on Tuesday Apple CEO Tim Cook said Apple will not be creating a cheaper version of the iPhone, just for the sake of offering something cheaper.

Tim Cook said:

“There are other companies that do that, that’s not who we are,” Cook said. “Our North Star is great products.”

Which is a lot different to the way I phrased the title of this article :). What they are planning to do however, is drop the price on the older iPhone models and gradually scale back on the production of the iPhone 4 models.

Cook also said:

“It surprised us as to the level of demand we have for it,”

This isn’t exactly the most strategic move of the century as this is product inventory 101. When you have a new product line, you basically reduce the price of the older one and then phase it out slowly. This works when you’re always innovating and bringing out new products. The moment this doesn’t work is when you stop bringing out new lines and models.

Whichever way you spin this, it’s not exactly rocket science and I believe Tim Cook was trying to put an end to the rumours. I mean, if you think about this logically, he doesn’t want people waiting on the sidelines to buy a cheaper iPhone. He wants them to buy one now! Makes sense I suppose.

If you get the chance, take a look at the latest iPhone 5 review we did.

I set up Hot Deals Monster because I was frustrated with the lack of deals specifically targeted to Men. I wasn't interested in cheap nappies or 10p off my next box of cornflakes. I wanted real, interesting deals that would genuinely help and save money for the male consumer.
